The 6th annual edition of Glitz Africa Fashion Week was held at the luxury Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, with the theme “our fashion our heritage” from 17th to 20th October 2019. The event began with a beauty forum on the topic “Leveraging the Power of Influencers” at the Labadi Beach Hotel and climaxed a splendid cocktail evening to welcome the guests at the French Ambassador’s residence in Accra, it was strictly invitation.
The runway show started right on Friday, 18th October (on that same day, the retail lounge was opened for shopping from selected designers) it was exciting to see the budding Ghanaian Designer Yartel GH open the show with a touch of class and style, followed by Clemas from Nigeria, in that order. Amongst other showcasing designers on the night, include Funke Adepoju, House of Irawo, Telvin Nwafor, Ejiro Amos Tafiri and a lot more.
Day 2 was another experience to have, (it felt good to me) the business of fashion of seminar was (up for grab) on various topics, of which one of them was”shaping local talents into international brands” it was aptly hosted by Mai Atafo, a Nigerian designer who engaged Ms Sara Suzzani Maino, Deputy Editor of Vogue Italia and Head of Vogue Talents in one on one discussion.
Lots of amazing designers showcased their creativity and craftmanship on the runway. Designers like James Johnson, Titi Belo, Raskana and Selina Beb did pretty much better to showease their collections, in a stunning surprising way. Ghana’s Jants collection was on trend with some attractive and sultry apparels going forward. For sure, Nigerian Designers Koñyè were pleasing to the eye and quite impressive.
Day 3 got off to a brighter start with Nigeria’s Mai Atafo after Maybelline has had their time to showcase, in fact he was very much appreciated for his attention to details, sense of style and great wit along with some nice and beautiful looking models strutting the runway. The Vlisco Show featured a couple of designers, who seemed like upcoming ones gradually emerging like a force reckon with, this was followed by R Luri from Ghana.
Obviously, it was a fun moment to share, as a few notable celebrities such as Okyeame Kwame, Adjetey Annan, Nathaniel Attoh and John Dumelo rocked the runway for the smart moving designer, Jay Ray Ghartey who showased a collection inspired by the movie “Game of thrones”. He was awesome and really made it through, because the audience were filled excitement and enjoyed every bit of it.
